I. Cultivation Objectives

It aims to cultivate international compound and applied management talents who know about China, are familiar with the market economic operation rule, have humanist spirit, engineering background and the modern enterprise management idea, systematically master solid basic theories and systematic expertise in business management and have the ability to work in business management.

II. Cultivation Direction

Enterprise Management

It is to cultivate students to be familiar with various kinds of enterprise management laws, to firmly master relevant theories of enterprise management, and to be able to undertake all levels of management of Chinese and foreign enterprises.

Investment and Financial Management

It is to cultivate students to master theories of disciplines related to the modern investment and finance and to be able to engage in the financial management of enterprises, practical business of various kinds of investment institutions and other work.

III. Basic Requirements

Basic Qualities Required

Person whoever has a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) shall have good academic and business ethics, have the consciousness of corporate citizenship, social responsibility and sustainable development, have humanist spirit, scientific spirit and entrepreneurial spirit.

Basic Knowledge Required

Basic knowledge

International students with a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) shall master the basic theoretical knowledge of modern economics and management, and master the basic analytical methods and tools needed for enterprise management.

Professional knowledge

International students with a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) shall master professional knowledge related to functional management of enterprises, such as accounting, finance, marketing, operation, human resource management, information management, etc., and also master professional knowledge related to comprehensive management of enterprises, such as leadership, decision-making, entrepreneurship, corporate governance, strategy, business ethics and enterprise social responsibility. International students with a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) shall master the professional knowledge required for the position of comprehensive management or functional management of various enterprises.

Basic Ability Required

International students with a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) shall have strategic thinking and analytical ability to grasp the overall situation from a global perspective, have ability to make scientific decisions to solve complex problems, have team spirit and communication skills and have innovation and organizational leadership ability.

IV. Academic Duration and Cultivation Methods

Academic Duration

International students for a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) shall be released from regular work for study. The academic duration is 3 years, and the period of schooling shall be neither less than 2 years nor more than 5 years. They may apply for early graduation with the approval of their tutors, the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and the MBA Education Center. Within the prescribed period of schooling, international postgraduates for a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) shall complete the total credits required in the cultivation program, complete the MBA degree papers (in Chinese), and pass the defense before graduating and obtaining the MBA degree.

Cultivation Methods

Carry out a credit system. International postgraduates for a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) shall pass the prescribed course examinations organized by the university and get the credits for the courses only if they pass the examinations; they shall complete 29 credits.

Increase the autonomy and flexibility of international postgraduates for a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA), and focus on quality improvement and personality development. According to the working practice of postgraduates for a degree of MBA, there shall be two directions set up, i.e., enterprise management, and investment and financial management. According to students' needs, special lectures and student forums shall be held to promote students' self-learning and communication.

Person whoever has missed more than a third of a class shall not be allowed to take the final examination and shall restudy the class. Postgraduates must pass exams for MBA courses and complete the required course credits before writing a degree paper. The MBA degree shall be awarded to those who have passed the paper defense in accordance with relevant regulations and procedures. Academic misconduct shall be severely punished, and applicants of false degree papers shall be disqualified with degree application or degree revoking.

Attach importance to and set up the second classroom, and invite entrepreneurs with rich practical experience and experts in related subjects to the university in various forms to offer special lectures.

Chinese is the course teaching language for international postgraduates for a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA). According to the special circumstances of MBA, all courses may be taught either bilingually or all in English. Teachers of international postgraduates for a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) are mainly excellent bilingual teachers, and young and middle-aged key teachers and experts with senior professional and technical positions in industrial and commercial enterprises or economic management departments are also absorbed to form an MBA course team so as to form a teacher echelon.

V. Practical Link

In each course, a certain number of cases shall be guaranteed in strict accordance with the requirements of the MBA Education Supervisory Committee. The number of cases used shall be no less than 5 for major core courses including 2 local cases and shall be no less than 5 for optional courses including 1 local case.

VI. Curriculum System and Setup

Basic Theoretical Courses (8 Credits)

Chinese Panorama, Chinese and Basic Mathematics are included mainly to cultivate international postgraduates for a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) to understand Chinese language and culture, develop friendly relations between China and other countries, provide a basis for communication for their MBA study in China and a basic mathematical basis for economic management research.

Specialized Core Courses (15 Credits)

To mainly cultivate the political theory accomplishment and business ethics morality of postgraduates, enable them to master the basic theories and tools of modern management and economics and systematically master the management theory, method and technology of industrial and commercial enterprises and be familiar with the production and operation rules and transnational operation rules.

Direction Elective Courses (6 Credits)

They are set up according to academic interest, knowledge structure and ability level of postgraduates, reflecting the personalized cultivation goal.

Practice Courses

They are divided into development training and mobile classroom, enterprise research, entrepreneurial simulation, business planning and design, with no credits included. They are to cultivate students' basic qualities and professional spirit of being pioneering, cooperative and innovative, let the postgraduates understand the new situation of China's economic construction and social development so that they can resolve practical problems comprehensively with management knowledge.

VII. Degree Standards and Degree Awarding

International students for a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) shall combine the management practice of industrial and commercial enterprises, social and economic reform and construction practice and focus on field investigation and research for paper topic selection and their papers shall demonstrate the ability to analyze and solve practical problems by using the theories learned. Problem-oriented studies and case studies are advocated.

The research field of the degree paper of international students for a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) shall include various practical problems of enterprise management or investment and financial management.

Writing of the degree paper of international students for a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA). MBA postgraduates shall prepare their papers one year before graduation, which shall be no less than half a year's work. During the period of degree paper research and writing, MBA postgraduates shall actively strengthen the relationship with the tutors, formulate feasible research directions and research plans, and write degree papers in accordance with the requirements of the Specifications for Writing MBA Degree Papers of Southwest Petroleum University.

Strengthen the management of paper examination and defense and check seven links including defense qualification examination, academic misconduct detection, defense application, degree paper evaluation, degree paper defense, evaluation of the Degree Assessment Sub-committee of the college, evaluation of the Degree Assessment Committee of the University. The MBA degree paper defense shall be organized by the MBA Education Center. The Defense Committee shall consist of no less than 5 experts with the senior professional title and at least one off-campus peer expert. After the paper defense is passed, the Degree Assessment Sub-committee of the College of Economics and Management shall approve by voting firstly and then the Degree Assessment Committee of the University shall conduct assessment and approval before awarding the MBA degree.
